Window blinds hand decorated

We all have seen window blinds in most homes, either bare or overlapped with a nice sheer or curtain or adorned on top with a nice valence. In all cases, they do perform the task that they are designed for, primarily the provision of privacy and keeping out of the sunlight when needed or simply shutting off the outside world and creating user generated environment developed in one’s own mind.

Some people think that in order to have a window treatment that becomes a conversation piece, one needs to spend a lot of money and install expensive window blinds. This is simply not true, as I came across a situation just a few days ago, wherein a woman had transformed a simple set of cheap vinyl mini blinds into a great conversation piece by putting some elbow grease, not literally of course.

Talk about being creative, the lady had taken decorative beads and glued them on to both sides of the slats of the window blinds in her child’s room in an artistic manner such that in one setting, they had the depiction of a bright sun to represent day time and on the other side of the slat, the beads were designed to depict a crescent moon and stars to represent a calm night. The child could turn the handle rod to choose which side was to be shown depending either on the actual time of the day or their own imagined time during play time.

The blinds themselves were cheap, the beads were cheap, but when put together in this very clever artistic format that certainly took a lot of time to form, the cheap window blinds had been converted to a great conversation piece without spending a lot of money.
